October Formal
Dinner

Bob and Robbie Hoffman are putting the finishing touches on the menu and wine selection for the Fall Formal Dinner. Please join us on Friday, October 10, 2003 at the Outdoor Country Club. Watch for your invitation.

Step up to the plate

Please consider hosting an event during the upcoming year. The Fall 2003 tasting, Spring 2004 tasting and Spring 2004 Formal Dinner should be planned shortly.

Adventures and Finds

Have you recently come across an exceptional wine, tasted a special recipe, discovered an outstanding restaurant, read an interesting magazine or Web article, know of a fantastic party idea? Share it with us - send the information to Don Butcher for the next issue of Corks & Forks.

To get the ball rolling, David and Fran Polk suggest that you check out Lacroix at The Rittenhouse in Philadelphia. It has it all. Outstanding wine list, creative menu (you select the four courses you want, in the sequence you want them. Even enjoy the same dish four times!)

Not only is the service superb, Chef' Lacroix proudly gave them a tour of the kitchen showing off the chef's table for a special occasion.

Filling the ranks

We have a few spaces available for new members, so consider inviting prospective members to future tastings and dinners (space permitting).

Prospective members must attend a tasting and a dinner before they can request membership. You may ask them to attend as your guest or have them pay for the event themselves.

If you have invited a couple to one event, YOU must invite them to others until they meet the qualifications. Check with the event hosts to be certain guests are welcome and request they be sent an invitation - or send them a copy of yours.

The society does not maintain a list of prospective members.

"I cook with wine, sometimes I even add it to the food!!"

Looking Back – IW&FS Archives

Make a little extra space in your miscellaneous files. If you chaired a tasting or dinner, don't toss those files.  We'd like to put them into our archives.

In the guise of historian, Fran Polk is keeping the archives up to date - BUT - many things are missing. Dig out those receipts, menus, invitations,

photographs, anything that should be filed and send them to Fran.

As usual the scrapbooks will be displayed at the annual meeting.

Can you get it in PA?   Wine online

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is expanding its premium collection of fine wines offered through its e-commerce Web site www.pawineandspirits.com . Also watch for special tastings being held at local Wine and Spirits stores.
