WELCOME TO THE YORK BRANCH WEB SITE!

York, Pennsylvania is one of America's most beautiful and historic cities.  Founded in 1741, York served as capital of Colonial America in 1777 and 1778 when the Second Continental Congress governed the fledging United States from York Town.  While here they adopted the Articles of Confederation and declared the First National Day of Thanksgiving in celebration of a victory over the British in Saratoga, NY.  Revolution returned in 1863 when York became the largest town north of the Mason-Dixon Line to be occupied by the Confederate Army.  But revolution and York seem to go hand-in-hand, so it is no surprise that York was on the forefront of another revolution: The Industrial Revolution.  The first coal-burning locomotive was built in York as was the first iron steamboat.  The York "stamp" is known throughout the world – York Barbells, York Air Conditioners, and York Peppermint Patties.  Like a fine wine, the city and county of York only improve with age!  York County is the fastest growing county in Pennsylvania and the City of York is home to one of the largest urban historic districts in the mid-Atlantic region.
